What is V-line surgery?
“V-line” is a common name rather than a single operation. It usually means reshaping the lower jaw — reducing the angle or width of the jaw bone — and often adjusting the chin, so the lower face looks narrower from the front.
Which procedures can be part of it?
- Mandibular angle reduction (square jaw reduction)
- Chin surgery (genioplasty) to narrow, shorten or advance the chin
- Cheekbone reduction, when the mid-face is also a concern
- Non-surgical options such as jaw Botox, when the width comes from muscle rather than bone
Is it surgery or can it be done with injections?
It depends on the cause. A wide jaw caused by a strong chewing muscle is assessed differently from one caused by bone. A surgeon usually uses an examination and imaging to tell the difference.
What should I ask the surgeon?
- Which parts of my jaw and chin would you change, and how?
- What type of anaesthesia is used, and who monitors it?
- What are the possible risks, including to the nerves of the lower face?
- How many follow-up visits do I need before flying home?
- What is included in the written estimate?
How should I plan my stay?
Bone surgery needs more recovery time than a non-surgical treatment. Ask your surgeon for a written timeline of follow-up visits before booking your return flight, and plan time to rest in Seoul.
